About The Water Conservation Garden

The Water Conservation Garden has nearly six acres of displays that showcase water wise gardening through a series of beautiful themed exhibits, such as a native plant garden, sensory garden, meadow garden, as well as how-to displays such on mulch and irrigation. The Garden also features a live desert tortoise and butterfly pavilion that is open spring and summer each year. The Water Conservation Garden is owned and operated by a Joint Powers Authority, which consist of the City of San Diego, Helix Water District, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, Otay Water District, Sweetheart Water Authority and the San Diego County Water Authority.

Highly recommend for all age groups. We stayed there longer than expected because the garden kept my 6 year old entertained for much longer than I expected. Next time we will pack a lunch! Super fun scavenger hunt. Garden is kept clean and tidy. Volunteers are kind.

Charming garden! Well worth a visit here. Good HC ♿ parking and easy access throughout the gardens. Nice play areas for kids, too.

So much fun at The Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon! Great place to learn about San Diego’s water system and how to better use water to conserve. The plants are beautiful and well kept thanks to the strong volunteer community. Lots of kid friendly areas with play houses, sand pits and more. Nice gift shop as well. Dog friendly. It was $11 per adult. Recommend!

I’m way late to this party, but today we finally visited the Cuyamaca Water Conservation Garden. Thi place is gorgeous, sprawling, and perfect for a 1-3 hour outing. My 1.5 and 3.5 year old loved exploring, and loved the children’s area. We bought a membership immediately after! Lots of nice benches in shade and spots to have a picnic. Hidden gem!

Beautiful garden and impressive landscaping, tons of knowledgeable gardening tips if you're looking to renovate your backyard. Volunteers are really nice and great with kids. Very pet friendly, love to take my bird.
